Resources at the Library

As a bride the best place for wedding research was the library. I happen to work at a library and I take full advantage of the thousands of books I have right at my fingertips.

One of my favorite books I used was the DIY Bride series. These books had tons of ideas for everything from wedding invitations to DIY popcorn bars. It was nice having a whole collection of DIY ideas minus all the hassles of the internet. Click on the icon on the left for a link to see more of the Lake County Public Library's DIY Bride titles. Some bridal websites want you to create an account and it may be free but then you are sure to be bombarded by advertisements.

Don’t get me wrong the internet has a lot of really great sites that are helpful for wedding planners. I just feel too many times people forget there are other resources other than the internet. A good variety of books, magazines and online materials is a good option.
If you are looking for a place to get good wedding ideas try Pinterest. This site is great just for that. You create an account and can post images and comments. The best part is then you can search Pinterest for things other people posted. So let’s say I searched popcorn bar. Images that others have posted will come up and you can get some great ideas. I got the idea from my DIY Bride book then I searched in on Pinterest and found some really great ideas on what types of containers to use and other decorations for popcorn bars.

So all the wedding planning books are great but another thing you should focus on is the honeymoon. All that work goes into one day and then it is over. Too many times all the attention and money goes into the wedding and the couple end up skipping the honeymoon or say they will do it at a later time. I suggest making some cuts in your wedding budget to make room for some honeymooning. Weddings are stressful. Let me say that again. Weddings are soooooooo stressful. Every couple needs time to relax. The library has travel guides. I know the internet has all the information too but I find travel guides quite useful. They are the most useful to take with you. Sometimes internet in hotels can be pricey and you may not always find a place with a good Wi-Fi connection. Besides technology does not always work how you want it too.

On our honeymoon to Vegas we decided to rent a car and go to the Hoover Dam. My husband tried to use the GPS on his phone to get us there. The GPS was giving us crazy directions that didn’t make sense. We tried to fix it but gave up, luckily for us I had my travel guides with me and I used the nice easy to read map with points of interest marked. We used my good old fashioned map reading abilities.

Three months to go before the wedding we decided to try to learn a first dance on our own. I remember seeing some dance videos at the library. After a quick search I found several videos specifically geared towards weddings. So it just goes to show the library has more than you probably think.
